Top Fall Home Maintenance Tasks

The days are getting shorter and the temperature is inching down. The sign of this change is most certainly fall. The leaves will be changing colors and falling off the trees by the end of this month. And it's time to prepare your home for fall.

Here are some tips for making sure that your home is ready for fall:

1) Clean out your gutters and make sure they're clear of leaves and other debris. This helps prevent water damage to the exterior of your house, which can lead to mold or mildew growth.

2) Check basement for leaking or moisture and make sure you have them all sealed up and ready for the winter.

3) Check all of your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Replace batteries if necessary, and test them regularly throughout the year so that you know they'll work in an emergency situation!

4) Check window screens for holes or tears, and replace as needed. It's also a good idea to install door sweeps on exterior doors so that they don't get outside when left open accidentally.

5) Drain your exterior water lines and shut off taps. Making sure your water lines are clear for the colder weather will ensure that there are no mishaps during the winter months.

6) Clean out the leaves from underneath your deck or patio furniture. This is an easy way to keep your outdoor space looking great.

7) It's good practice to check your HVAC system so that you know it's ready to handle cooler temperatures in the fall. This will also give you an opportunity to clean out any debris from inside your unit or around vents, which could cause issues.

8) Change or clean your furnace filter. Your furnace filters out all kinds of dust, hair, and other allergens.
